Monday: Started presentations.

Amendment 1: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or abridging the freedom of speech.

  • Protects the freedom on speech and religion
  • Can petition the government
  • Protects freedom of the press 
  • Allows people to assemble peacefully
  • Ratified: September 25, 1789
  • Adopted: December 15, 1791

Amendment 2: 

  • Protects ourselves by being able to keep us and our guns in self defense and in war
  • Ratified: September 25, 1789
  • Adopted: December 15, 1791
  • Founding Fathers thought that the people should be able to protect themselves against the government (like how Britain was)

Amendment 3: 

  • No soldier can barge into someones house without your consent
  • To show respect to other countries and their people's belongings
  • Ratified: September 25, 1789
  • Adopted: December 15, 1791

Amendment 4: Right to secure in their persons houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches without warrants

  • Protects us from having things searched and taken from us without good reason
  • To keep every U.S. citizen their dignity and privacy from the police and other higher authorities
  • Ratified: September 25, 1789

  • Electoral College  made it so President can pick vice president.

Amendment 13:

  • Abolish slavery
  • Ratified: January 3, 1885

Amendment 14:

  • Anyone born in US is automatically a citizen and has equal rights to the laws.
  • Everyone one has equal protecting to the laws.
  • Ratified: 1868

Amendment 15: 

  • Prohibits denial of gender or race.
  • African Americans got the right to vote.
  • Ratified: February 26, 1870

Amendment 16:

  • Government get a portion of the money you make with your job.
  • Established income tax
  • Ratified: 

Amendment 17:

  • Each state can only have two senators
  • Each state can only have one vote.
  • Election of Senators by the people
  • Ratified: April 8th, 1913

Amendment 18:

  • Prohibition of alcohol
  • Illegal to sell alcohol unless for medical or other reasons.
  • Ratified: December 5th, 1933

Amendment 19:

  • Prohibits any US citizens being denied to vote
  • No discrimination, all people can vote
  • Ratified: August 18, 1920

Amendment 20:

  • Gives ending dates for President and VP
  • If president dies VP takes over
  • Ratified: 1933

Amendment 21: 

  • Made creation of alcohol and drinking of alcohol legal
  • Repeals 18th amendment
  • Ratified: Dec 5th, 1933

Amendment 22:

  • President can't serve for more than 2 terms.
  • Established: May 21, 1947

Amendment 23:

  • People that live in DC can vote.
  • It was a problem because they said DC is not a state.
  • Ratified: March 29, 1961

Amendment 24:

  • The right that citizens can vote in any primary election of President or Vice President without poll tax
  • Poll taxes were pushing people away from voting
  • Ratified: January 23rd, 1964

Amendment 25:

  • Filling the vacancy of the President with the Vice President. If the VP steps down or dies teh President chooses a new Vice President.
  • William James Harrison was the first president to die in office.
  • Ratified: February 10, 1967

Amendment 26: 

  • Anyone above the age 18 years or older have the right to vote.
  • Previous age was 21
  • Ratified: July 1st, 1971

Amendment 27:

  • Congress can not raise pay until after the election.
  • Protects human rights
  • Ratified: 1992

Thursday- We started off by looking at newly released images of Osama Bin Ladin. Then we went over to Ferguson case. 483 blacks were arrested, 36 white people were arrested, 92% of searches 86% of car stops involved blacks. Recently two police officers were shot. Next we talked about how two drunk SS agents crashed a car into the white house barrier. Then the big thing we talked about was Iran and their Nuclear Program. Iran leader is Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Their former President was Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and how he said how the Holocaust never happened and we need to do more research. Their current President is Hassan Rouhani. We then talked about the nuclear powers of the world:

Developing Nuclear Countries: Iran

Friday- We started talking about the Iran nuclear program. They launched their program in the 1950's. In 2003 their program was really starting to pick up and get bigger. We started to believe that they were trying to develop nuclear weapons, but they claim that they are using it for nuclear weapons. Then we talked about whats happening today. Our goal is to try to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons. Iran's goal is to relief from economic sanctions. Their second goal is to maintain a peaceful nuclear program. They would have to be monitored to prevent cheating.  Then we continued with the presentations -----^
