  • A renaissance person (men or woman) killed in many fields of discipline. They have a Broad base of knowledge. 
  • Ideal individual strove to master almost every area of study 

Renaissance Man

  • A man who excelled in many fields 
  • Charming and witty 
  • Well educated in classics 
  • Dance sing, play music, write poetry 
  • Skilled rider, wrestler, and swordsman 

"Classics" 

  • Study of classical antiquity 
  • Focused on language, literature, philosophy, history, and archaeology 

Renaissance Women

  • Silk 
  • Bright colors 
  • Wealthy, upper-class women, much better educated than a medieval woman, with little influence in politics 
  • Charming 
  • Well educated in the classics 
  • Don't seek fame 
  • Inspire art, but don't create it 
  • Marry well and have boys
  • However many renaissance women of the renaissance era are regarded as renaissance men for their bold accomplishments

  • Married the Ruler of the city- State of Mantua
  • Brought many renaissance artists to her court 
  • BUilt a famous art collection

  • Regarded as one of the greatest minds the world has ever produced

  • Formulated a heliocentric view of the universe 
  • Taught that the Earth revolved around the sun which opposed the Church

  • Major force in french politics 
  • Created peace policy between Catholics and protestants 
  • 3 of her sons became kings
  • Interest in architecture 
  • Held authority over the building of the new wing of the Louvre Museu, the Tuileries Gardens, and the Chateau Monceau
