Territorial: Taken from Germany...

Military: reduced to 100,000 men. No tanks, subs, ships, airplanes. allowed only 6 capital naval ships.

Financial: the loss of vital industrial territory would be a severe blow to Germany's economy. Germany had to pay $33 billion to allies (Great Britain/France)

General: Germany had to admit full responsibility for starting the war. Germany forbidden to unite with Austria. League of Nations was set up to keep world peace

Reaction: They weren't happy. Thought the Weimer Republic . Sign treaty or go back to war. Not okay.

Swastika is made the Nazi symbol

Beer Hall Putsch - tried to take it over, got arrested, went to trial, he's his own lawyer. 5 years, got out in 9 months due to good behavior

Tuesday 3rd - 

Hitler's rise to power: appointed chancellor in 1933, President Paul von Hindenburg dies shortly after and Hitler dissolves the Wiemar Republic - ran for president, lost - dropped out of League of Nations, Starts rearming Germany, Rearms German Rhineland Area

Anschluss with Austria - 1938

Munich Conference - Hitler and Neville Chamberlain and Mussolini, Britain and Germany

Meant "Peace for our Time"

Churchill opposed appeasement (giving in and giving what they want so they back off)

Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact - Russia gave raw materials to Germany in exchange for money and weapons, both agreed to stay neutral if the other entered the war, Secretly agreed to invade and split Poland. Germany would get western half and the USSR and the eastern half

How they reacted: Shock, Poland was scared, Hitler thought it would force Great Britain and France to back out of their promise to help Poland if they needed help

Nazi Goals - destroy air force (Luftwaffe), Attack and destroy British Navy, Attack British troops

German bombers were so bad that they could only bomb at night
