Cult of Domesticity
- Developed throughout 1800's
- The ideal of womanhood had four characteristics
- 1. Piety- tied to religions (the new "Eve"), all pure thoughts like loving everyone
- 2. Purity- without sexual purity, women was not women, but more a prostitute (lower than a human being
- 3. Domesticity- women's place was in the home (cleaning, cooking, and only worry about being perfect)
- Submissiveness- Women were to give in, Men were to be mover, and does--the actors in life, and women were to be the bystanders/ not take control
Push for Equality
- 1848- Plea for the end of discrimination against women in all spheres of society, including the right to vote
- Abolition of slavery (13th Amendment)
- Temperance (11th Amendment)
- Women's suffrage (19th Amendment)

- The pay gap has barely budged in a decade-(Women in every state experience the pay gap, but some states are worse than others-) worse for women of color
- Pay gap grows over age- face pay gap in nearly every occupation
- Education still doesn't help pay gap even though they graduate
