Softball was made for girls to keep them out of baseball. It has a smaller field, bigger ball, and the distance between the bases is smaller.

Brief History about Women's rights in USA-
- it's been believed that women have smaller heads than men
- unable to vote
- legal status of a minor
- single could own her own property
- married no control over property or her children
- could not initiate divorce
- couldn't not make wills, sign contracts, etc
Cult of Domesticity
- developed in 1800's
- ideas for what women were supposed to be like:
- piety- women are much more religious then men
- purity- female purity was also highly revered, without sexual purity, a woman was no woman, but rather a lower form of being
- domesticity- woman's place was in the home and role was to be busy at the home
- submission- this was perhaps the most feminine of virtues, men were supposed to be religious, although not generally, men were supposed to be pure, men supposed to be submissive.

- 1848- Seneca Falls declaration plea for the end of discrimination against women in all spheres of society, including the right to vote.

Education by 1928, women were earning 39% of the college degrees given in the Unite States.
1928 Olympics: these were the 1st Olympics that women were allowed to compete in.
Pink collard: gave women a taste of the work world. low paying service occupation. made less money than men did doing the same jobs. Example: teachers, telephone operators, and nurses.
Why do women get paid less than men?
