Amendments:
- 1st - protects freedom of speech, religion, petition, the government, press and to assemble peacefully. Passed - September 25, 1789, adopted - December 15, 1791. Importance - protects who we are and gives us our choices and beliefs. Controversy- freedom of speech controversy, Washington Redskins, name was considered bad by many, and they fought their trademark on it.
- 2nd - protects ourselves by being able to keep and use guns in self defense and in war. Passed- September 25, 1789, Adopted - December 15, 1791. Importance - to keep our country and its people safe from threats to our everyday life. Controversy - After the sandy hook shooting, if you have a criminal background it will be harder to buy a gun than a person who doesn't have a criminal background.
- 3rd - no soldier can barge into someones house without their consent. Passed - September 15, 1789, Ratified - December 25.
- 4th - protects us from having things searched and taken from us without good reason. ratified - September 25, 1789, December 15, 1791. Importance - to keep us citizens their dignity and privacy from the police and other higher authorities. Update - cellphones as an item cannot be searched without a warrant.
