Treaty of Versailles:

- Germans not happy with treaty

- It hurt Germany a lot, lots of pressure on Germany

- Nazis blamed the treaty for all of the problems during WWII

Hitler:

-Beaten by his father

-Sold art on the streets (Vienna, Austria)

-Too weak for Austrian army, went to German army

-Joins Nazi party

-Got in trouble at school a lot

-Made himself Fuhrer of Nazi party

-1923- Beer Hall Putsch: Hitler tried to take over Berlin with Nazi party

-Writes book Mein Kampf while in prison

-One of his biggest goals were to reunite German speaking peoples

-Soviet-German Non Aggression Pact: Russia gave raw materials to Germany who manufactured things and gave some back to Russia

-Hitler takes over Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Denmark, Norway, France early 1940

Czechoslovakia 

Blitzkreig:

-Shock and awe

-To win the battle as fast as possible

Antisemitism- Anti-Jew

Nazi Goals:

-Destroy Royal Air Force(sept. 15, 1940 invasion)

-Destroy British Navy

-Attack British troops

-Would invade Great Britain once air control was gained

-Germany never succeeded in destroying the Royal Air Force

-Great Britain had a very great advantage

-Hitler's 3 Major cities of attack in Soviet Union- Moscow, Stalingrad, Leningrad

-Almost took over Stalingrad, had Leningrad surrounded, outskirts of Moscow taken over

-Russian winter sets in and Germans start freezing and dying

-Winter turns war to Russian favor

Atlantic Wall- Defensive barrier built by German army to slow down Allied invasions

39, 40, 41, 42- Axis powers are winning

End of 42, 43, 44- Ally powers start making progress and pushing forward

-D-day: June 6, 1944

-Hitler's troops were mostly sent to other places because of misinterpretation and media lies

-Allies invade beaches of Normandy, France

-Allies overtake the beaches

-3 months later Paris is liberated

-Battle of bulge was Hitler's last offense

-Russians and US soldiers meet at the Elbe River in Germany April 25, 1945

-Pretty much end of the war

-V-E day May 8, 1945 (Victory in Europe)

-West Germany- democratic after war

-East Germany- communist after war

Mass Killing- killing everybody

Genocide- Targeting a specific ethnic group, race, religion, etc.

Lebensborn- Aryan men with Aryan women having offspring that were pure Aryan

Nuremburg Laws- defined what a jew was

-Jews were not German citizens, second class

-If a grandparent was jewish, deemed jewish

-Jews only allowed to marry jews

Kristallnacht "night of broken glass"- destroying Jewish businesses and churches(synagogues)

-Jewish children expelled from schools

-Nazis take control of Jewish-owned business

-War starts and Hitler makes jews wear star of david

-Jews were being deported to Poland

-Jews forced into ghettos

-Mass murder of Jews begins in 1940

-1942 final solution: plan to kill all Euro Jews

-Jews start fighting back in ghettos in 1943
