Monday- Continued Germany notes

  • treaty of versaille- specifically to go against Germany
  • League of Nations was also decided.
  • Germany reaction was not good to the treaty
  • stabbed in the back theory- stabbed Germans in back for accepting this treaty, Nazis blamed this and the republic for causing all of Germany's problems
  • Hitler was beat as a child failed out of art school, but did art on the streets for money, unhappy, lots of filers, parents both dead by his age of 20, too weak to get into his own country's army because he was too weak, and quickly rose through the ranks as a great speaker and his strength was the leader and named himself fuhrer or the Nazi party. Swastika and made it the Nazi sign but did not start it.

  • sudetenland crisis- german lost land to czechoslovakia, and his goal was to reunite german speaking people

  • hitler wanted to reunite all german speaking people
  • became know as the policy of appeasement (give them what they want to calm them down)
  • proves that he lies to them and takes over with really no consequence

  • Russian winter sets in and make is a huge turning point in the war

Siege of Leningrad

  • Germans took over Leningrads railroads, cutting them off from the rest of Russia and the world

D-Day

  • Invasion of France over the English channel
  • Paris free in August 25, 1944
  • VE DAY (MAY 8, 1945)

Night of the Broken Glass

  • 91 jews killed
  • Nazi's boy-cotted jewish businesses
  • All jewish children are expelled from public school

1939

  • Hitler orders the mentally and physically handicapped to be killed

1942

  • Final solution- Plan to kill all european jews
  • Death camps set up- Majdanek, Sobibor, Treblinka, Belzec, and Auschwitz-Birkenau
  • Ghettos of Eastern Europe are being emptied

1945

  • Hitler is defeated and World War 2 ends in Europe
