Italy

1. How did the Treaty of Versailles impact them?

They had recieved some land but not as much as they had wanted

2. What type(s) of government did this country have in the interwar years(1919-1938)?

1924 Mussolini declared dictator; assassination of writer Giacomo Matelote by secret police.

3. How did their leader, that led them throughout WWII, come to power?

1921, Mussolini was elected chamber of Deputies; 1922, prime minister by the king.
4. How did this leader change their country(for the better and worse) prior to WWII?

Mussolini used his private army to fight against anyobne against fascism; helped public transport and job opportunities; started as axis in 1940; 1943-switched to allie powers. He started invading countries.
5. What were the goals of the leader?

Colonize into Africa to compete with Britain and France; wanted to made Italy"great, respectedand feared"; used communication to make fascism seem ok.
6. What was the military strategy of this country in the inter-war years(1919-1938)?

They wanted to help Hitler and not overrun his rule. They wanted to keep supplies. The United States fought a lot in Italy. They kind of wanted to preoccupy the Allied Powers with tough fighting in Italy. Moussolini wanted to have control of the Meditterean Sea.

7. What role did they play in WWII?

At first they stayed in isolation. They wanted to help the Germans and Hitler. Not very many people in Italy cared about the war.

8. Who were their allies in WWII?

The Allies were German, Austria, Hungary, Japan, part of Yugoslavia, and the French Navy.

9. How did WWII impact/effect the country?

They lost all of their colonies. The Government pretty much collapsed because the Germans had invaded their country. The people of Italy hated Moussolii at the end of the war and killed him.

Japan got alot of Germany's northern islands; the land taht germany got from china was givent to japan instead fo given back to china; they got to be part of the league of nations

2. What type(s) of government did this country have in the interwar years(1919-1938)?
they had a two party political system after WWI (where two major parties dominate the votes at almost all elections; in 1918 Hara Takashi became the first common person to becameprome minister; in 1926, Hirohito becomes emporer; they had mostle a constitutional monarchy (the emporer is in charge but there are people that keep him from having too much power)

3. How did their leader, that led them throughout WWII, come to power?
Hirohito was the son of prince yoshihito and princess sakado; when his grandpa (the emporer) died the prince and his dad became emporer; he went to all these schools and took a trip around europe and then his dad became sich with a mental illness, so therefore he became emporer. The military leaders

the military leaders were the ones that really did all of the things that made Japan go down the wrong path.

to expand their boundaries into mainland Asia; invasions

attacked pearl Harbor; treatment of POW's; wanted resources; chemical weapons
