Why they won:

Their battle strategies, big Army, Winter, Allies

Major Battles:

Kiev, Stalingrad, Soviet-Japanese War

Battle Strategies:

Two per gun, any soldier tries to retreat would be killed for being a coward, use snipers to take the enemies down from hiding spots in houses/factories

Impact after war:

Most casualties of the war, rebuilt cities, production went up

War Goals: 

Rebuild everything that was burned down, restart their economy, throw Germans out of the Soviet Land

Important People:

Joseph Stalin - Lenin suffered a stroke in 1922 and died in 1924, by the time Lenin died, he did not like Stalin, After he died, there was a power struggle to see who would take over, Stalin won and was in power by the late 1920's

Poor growing up, Karl Marx "Communist Manifesto", Involved in crimes to fund Bolshevik Revolution, Stalin kept moving up in the ranks of the Communist Party, Lenin died in 1924, Stalin became leader in 20s, Wanted to be an industrial superpower, Signed non aggression pact with Hitler, Germany broke non aggression pact, Soviet Union became part of the Allies, Died from stroke in 1953, De Stalinization happened after his death, Responsible for 20 million deaths

USSR Prior to WW2

Russia drops out of WW1 (1917) to fight Bolshevik Revolution, Russia came communist and changed name to USSR in 1922, Purges and deportations to slave labor camps in Siberia (Gulags), Strengthened the intelligence and secret service, created a "cut of personality", nationalization and collectivization of the Soviet economy, Industrialization of the Soviet economy, Five Year Plans, Policies led to famine in Ukraine(5-10 million died - considered a genocide by some), banned religion.

Signed German-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact in 1939 leading to the invasion of Poland, Also invaded Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Finland in 1939, Signed Neutrality Pact with Japan in 1941, Invaded by Germany in June 1941, Stalin instituted his retreat and "scorched earth" policies, the Russian winter of 1941-1942 changed the tide of the war.

Major Events:

Conquered most of Europe including France, The only major country left to fight was Great Britain, Germany wanted to invade Britain but first they needed to destroy Britain's Royal Air Force, Battle of Britain was when Germany bombed Great Britain in order to try and destroy their air force and prepare for invasion, this battle took place on July 10th, 1940, lasted many months, Germany failed in their attempt to defeat Britain's air force, it was Hitler's first major loss

Basic Facts:

They allied with U.S, France, USSR, Brazil, Canada, China, and others, Great Britain's leader of the Allied Powers was Winston Churchill, He was also the prime minister of Britain during most of the WW2, Britain was the last country

Leaders - Neville Chamberlain

Born in Birmingham England, Prime minister from 1937-1940, policy of appeasement with Germany, Part of Churchill's Cabinet after being prime minister, died of cancer a couple weeks later

First political job in the Birmingham City Council, served on Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin's Cabinet - mid 20's, Was a chairman for the conservative party until he became Prime Minister in 1937

Resigned after Norwegian campaign, was blamed for the loss of Norway to the Germans, Didn't see government getting any better while he was in office
