but anyway
we watched a movie about ww2....
- congress passed a lot of nutrality acts.
- the US wanted to help britian defeat the nazi's without getting into the war
- destroyer for bases deal--traded britain desroyer ships for navel bases south east of florida
- the US was a neutral supplier
- pearl harbor--dec 7 1941.. attack on pearl harbor.. japan attack. decloration of war.
- japan wanted to dominate all of east asia and the pacific
- japan thought they needed to injure the US because we were too strong and they didnt want us strong
- the arsonal of democracy--italy germany and japan, rebuilding the navy
- mexico sent men to help the production and agriculture..
- ww2 ended the depression
- increasing industrial urbanization
- schemes--car factories easily changed to manufacture planes, tanks, ships
- financially better off
- every family in the US had ration stamps- for food, gas, ect
- kids even helped gathering newspaper. and stamps
- 15 million americans joined the arm forces and trained
- the surviving women who taught men and were trained pilots were given an award just yesterday actually
- in 1938.. FDR called the south the nations problem
- southern blacks were most affected by the war--strived for freedom and equality
- nazi's-- horrible democracy who have very horrible racial standards
- african americans gained a lot during the war..blacks moving into the cities made the tension go up
- over 1/3 of the workeforce was women
- ww2 really did help the women for the better.
- women earned hire wages in men jobs
