WWII MOVIE


  • destroyers for basis deal- 1930, us and great britain.
  • us worked as a neutral supplier to the allied powers
  • us vessels became targets as german attacks.. when a us ship was sunk by like iceland or something the neutrality act was like stopped and we became involved in the war
  • dec. 7, 1941- japanese attack on pearl harbor
  • dec. 8, declare war on japan
  • 1937.. japan invaded china. they wanted to dominate all of east asia and the pacific
  • spring of 1941.. japan had control of french endo-china?
  • mexico sent workers to work in us agriculture and industry
  • wwii affected the economy in many ways.. it ended the depression
  • at the end ot 1937 the us embarked on a program of rehonorment with rebuilding the nave and to look at ways to increase industrial globalization
  • when a war is coming you try to prepare for it with scemes so that automobile factories can produce things to help out the war such as tanks and airplanes and trucks
  • factories in the us employed millions of workers who worked long hours for large pay checks.
  • in order to conserve valuable resources rationing and price controls were emposed on critical goods
  • adults were given ration stamps
  • children helped out with the wars by doing little chores
  • 15 million americans went into training camps for the wore. women also joined to help in the war
  • most of the women in the war did not fight over seas.. they did support jobs. most served at home, but there was a group of women pilots who trained people but they were not members or parts of the military.. aparently these women tested things and recently these surviving women just yesterday received a medal of honor for doing so.. pretty cool, huh? but kinda late on that one
  • during wwii big government became a permenet fixture for life
  • no group was more effected from the war than the southern blacks.. the war revitalized the african struggle for ratial dicrimination
  • one of the problems the americans had in fighting the war was that they were fighting the nazis, who were very ratiol, and it was hard to maintain the ration segregation in the united states when you are fighting against a leader known for his racism
  • in 1940 there was a protest about ratial discrimination
  • african americans made significant economical gains during the war
  • in 1943 253 ratial conflicts exploded in 43 different cities
  • there were also american indians that served in the navy.. the navajos spoke their native language to fool the enemies
  • the new jobs created by the war changes a lot of peoples lives
  • most of the work forces working in even labor places were women
  • women earned high wages in mens jobs for the first time ever
  • even women that did not work in factories had a new found independence
  • many women were now able to make decisions for their family if their husbands were soldiers
  • during the dark early years of the was us prospects looked pretty bleak
  • the entertainment industry helped to boost the countrys spirits
  • everybody was united and everybody knew exactly who the enemy was
  • june 6, 1944- d day
  • 1175 men put onto the beach of normandy for an attack
  • 6 million people killed in holocaust.. consisting of all people the nazis considered undesirable
  • days after the death of roosevelt, french people killed musolini.. then not much later hitler killed himself then like a week later the germans surrendered and the war in europe was over
  • thousands of american and phillipene troops died in a death march in japan i think?
  • battle at midway- first all air battle
  • island hopping
  • tens of thousands of us lives were taken when trying to get the japanese islands
