Another week, another blog. Le sigh. At least Danielley remembered to do one this week. So we're off to a great start!!! Alrighty, so this week's blog is supposed to be about the 36th president of the United States, Lyndon "Beastly" Johnson. I bet you didn't know the B. stood for Beastly. But it totally does. Because I said so.So as you remember from the beginning of the year, JFK was totally assassinated. We watched the Zapruder film and it was quite the messy situation. Johnson was the vice president at the time, and as the saying goes was 'a bullet away from the presidency'. He was sworn in on Air Force One, without a bible I might add, and he was the only president to be sworn in by a woman.Obviously after JFK was shot everybody was pretty bummed. I mean, he was awesome. Ladies liked him. Guys would've liked to be him. It was all good! ... Until he was shot of course. So Johnson had quite a load of damage control to take on. He promised to continue all the programs and stuff the Kennedy had started, and while he did some of them, not everything got done. HOWEVER... he did manage to do a lot of Democrat stuff like helping the poor and starting his whole "Great Society" shpeel. He wasn't a big fan of racial injustice or the whole homeless people suffering thing. GO HIM!Now I really want to focus on in this blog is Lady Bird Johnson, his wifey. Mostly because you don't hear a whole ton about first ladies, and frankly I think they're all pretty awesome. So Lady Bird's real name was Claudia, named after her uncle Claude. Which is a nice name I guess but Lady Bird is way cooler. Maybe it was her gangster alter-ego. I don't know. But she was really into conservation and making this country all pretty-ful again. Seeing as how both her husband and her were from Texas, I'm willing to assume that the dog off of "King of the Hill" was named after her. Because I make assumptions like that.So overall, considering I'm liberal and what not, I thought this White House pair was pretty awesome. They were passionate about what they did. Whether it was for humanity, the environment, or America. They got stuff done, which I think is more than what other presidents and First Ladies can say. And after following an act like JFK, I think Johnson did fairly alright for himself. GO THEM!
