Lipstick Killer

On June 5th, 1945, 43-year-old Josephine Ross was found stabbed to death in her apartment in Chicago. Six months later a woman was found in her bathroom with a bullet wound in her head and a stab wound through her neck. The killer had written on the wall with red lipstick. The message said “for heavens sake catch me before I kill more I cannot control myself” which started the nickname of the Lipstick Killer. You would think that if the killer would leave a message like that they would turn themselves in. They knew what they were doing was wrong and whoever it was obviously wanted to stop so it makes no sense why this person wouldn’t confess. But I guess killing people makes absolutely no sense either.Only four weeks after the woman was found in her bathroom a child was abducted and the kidnapper had left a ransom note that demanded $20,000 for the child to be returned. The little girls head was found in a sewer a couple days later and the rest of her body after that. The police interrogated tons of people for days but never got any real leads. But then police arrested a burglar outside of the home of the little girl that had been murdered. The 17-year-olds name was William Heirens and police were almost positive that this was their guy. Heirens was brutally interrogated for days and then finally on August 7, 1946, Heirens confessed to killing the three people and was charged with three consecutive life sentences.Heirens is still alive and will turn 81 on November 15th. He has been behind bars for 63 years. He is the longest serving prisoner in Illinois history.Personally, I think the guy should stay behind bars. What he did was cruel. He even said it himself he can't control himself. But on the other hand I do realize that he is an eighty year old man who just wants to be free for his last years alive. So i guess i can see both sides.
