Lincoln’s PresidencyAbraham Lincoln was born on February 4th 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky. He had an older sister, Sarah, and a younger brother, Thomas. In 1816 the Lincoln’s moved to Indiana. Two years later, Abraham’s mother died in 1818. In 1831, Abraham left his home to briefly serve in the Black Hawk War, and was elected captain of his voluntary company. This opened a new path in Lincoln’s life.

In 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected the sixteenth president. He took office on March, 4th 1861. Abe became president during the Civil War, guiding his nation through a devastating experience. Lincoln had many great accomplishments during his presidency, one, being able to handle the war at an early time in his presidency. He made ending slavery in the south a war goal in September 1862. The American Civil War caused 620,000 soldier deaths making it the deadliest war in American history.

President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, declaring freedom for slaves in the confederate states brought freedom to thousands of slaves. Although, the Emancipation Proclamation did not end slavery completely. It was still Legal in few states. The Thirteenth Amendment officially ended slavery on December 6, 1865.

On Friday April 14, 1865 President Abraham Lincoln was attending a performance of "Our American Cousin" at Ford's Theatre and was shot. Actor and Confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth, shot lincoln that night. Lincoln died the next day.
