1.Watergate
The entire scandal started when five people got arrested for breaking into the Watergate Office Complex. It eventually led to President Nixon's resignation. Frank Wills noticed that there was tape on the doors which meant the doors were unlocked, so him being a good employee he took the tape off and walked away from the scene. But an hour later he found tape on the doors again so he called the police and five men were arrested. They were tied to President Nixon and his committee to Re-elect the President. President Nixon had recorded some tapes of conversations he had with some people, proving that he was trying to cover up the scandal. The Supreme Court had been asking Nixon to give them the tapes but he refused and he knew that we would be impeached so he just resigned.
Above is a picture of President Nixon talking on tv about what happened at the Watergate Scandal. Personally i think this topic is not very interesting. Nixon probably was going to win the election but this pretty much ruined it so i just think it was kinda dumb.
2.Persian Gulf War(1990-1991)
Basically all the Middle East and West countries against Iraq. All started when Irag invaded Kuwait. President Bush sent troops to Saudi Arabia and suggested that other countries must do the same. US, GB, Saudia Arabia, and Egypt were main countries that were ENTIRELY against Iraq. Persian Gulf War began on January 16, 1991. Saddam Hussein was the main leader for Iraq. The first thing to start it off was an air assault against Iraq and then there was a ground attack on Feb 24th and Iraq surrendered on the 27th.
The Persian Gulf War had a pretty good effect on history for a big reason. It made Saddam Hussein very FRUSTRATED!!!...If maybe this wouldn't have happened than maybe 911 would've been avoided.
3.9/11 and the War on Terror-Invasion of Afghanistan
On September 11, 2001 19 Al-Qaeda terrorists took over four commercial planes that were each packed full with passengers. Two of these jets were crashed into the Twin Towers in New York City. The world was in terror and the news was going nuts!...I remember the teachers in the classroom turning on the news to see what had happened, but anyways back to my blog. One of the other planes was crashed into the Pentagon and the other plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. The people on the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania had known by then what was going on and tried to stop the terrorists and take over the plane but they were unsuccessful. All pasengers in the planes died in this horrible tragedy. President Bush started the War on Terrorism and its goal was to get rid of the Taliban and try to prevent any attacks against the United States. He wanted to diminish all terrorists such as Bin Laden.
9/11 changed history big time!!...It affected so many people and is still affecting people because family our losing loved ones over in Iraq and we have been in a war for nine years now. It scared a lot of people in the US and it is just a huge tragedy in US history.
4.Invasion of Iraq(2003)
The US and GB were the head hanchos in the first invasion of Iraq, lasting from March 20 to May 1. US had 100,000 troops waiting in Kuwait preparing for invasion. Many people did not agree with this decision to invade. People thought that we should have handled Afghanistan differently but President Bush and Tony Blair of England thought that we needed to invade Iraq "to disarm Iraq of weapons of mass destruction and free the people of Iraq by taking Saddam Hussein out of power.
I think that President Bush could have handled things a little bitter with Iraq. I know that they crashed into the twin towers and everything but he could have maybe offered some agreements and stuff. I think Bush just got a bit greedy because Iraq had oil resources and he wanted the oil which is very profitable.
