The Watergate scandal was a burglary at a Washington office called Watergate They broke into the National Committee offices and took things. It happened in 1970, and was known to be an under the table deal, where someone from the inside was involved. President Richard Nixon resigned two years after the scandal started, which shocked many. The media had widespread investigation, and got info on who was all involved, and it turns out that Nixon was in the scandal.
I can’t believe that we had a president do this. It is by far one of the worst government scandals ever, and made the country look bad in my opinion.
The Persian Gulf War was a conflict In Iraq, and Kuwait. Saddam Hussein, Iraq’s leader until the early 2000’s, send Military to Kuwait to take over oil wells that Kuwait had because Iraq lost them in a former dispute. Over 5 UN nations helped fight off Iraq in Kuwait. We used an air assault on Iraq’s position, and they retreated and gave up do to manpower.
Saddam was stupid for doing this. Kuwait was an ally to many UN nations; witch backed them up, beating Iraq very quickly. In my opinion, this conflict hurt Iraq’s popularity.
September 11, 2001 was the infamous Terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. 19 high jackers were in the heist that was led by Al-Queda. Two planes hit the World Trade center, one hit the Pentagon, and one killed all passengers when it crashed in a field outside of Pennsylvania. The US president at the time, George W. Bush, declared “War on Terror” across the world. Ever since then, we have invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, stopping terrorist in the Middle East.
This was a very sad day. It will always be remembered. I remember seeing the replay over and over, and now when I look at it today, it shocks me that something like this would happen.
The invasion of Iraq was conducted on March 20, 2003. The US went in and tried to find “Weapons of Mass Destruction”. Eventually, Saddam lost power, and went in Captivity. He was found a few years later, and condemned for his crimes and hung. There were no weapons actually, the only good thing we did in Iraq was help the people, and take down Saddam. We still have seldom forces there today, but they are a recovering Govt.
In my opinion, I think we did the right thing. Now, there is no Saddam, and the people of Iraq get to vote.
