WaterGate
The Watergate scandel was a major burglary in the United States history on June 17, 1972. Men under the power of president Nixon broke into the Democratic National Commintee ( DNC ) and were first arrested with breaking and entering. The five men were "Virgilio González, Bernard Barker, James W. McCord, Jr., Eugenio Martínez, and Frank Sturgis." When the men were tried in court they were then charged with attempted burglary and attempted interception of telephone and other communications. While tried two other men came into play "E. Howard Hunt, Jr. and G. Gordon Liddy," they were both charged with conspiracy, burglary, and violation of federal wiretapping law!
The reason for the break in was to get president Nixon back into the offfice, but unfortunately Nixon was caught. President Nixon had a tape recording system in his office in which lead to his resignation and the downfall of their scandel. There were nine tapes that he had to turn over to the court.One of the tapes was between the president and John Dean. The tape consisted of the Watergate scandel and how they were going to cover it up. This tape was also called " the cancer of the presidency"
On August 9, 1974 President Nixon resigned and Gerald Ford proceed in his place in the oval office.Being the nice guy Ford is , Ford gave Nixon a full Pardon for any crimes he had "committed or may have committed or taken part in" as President."
Persian Gulf War - 90/91
The first Perian Gulf War also called the Gulf War started because of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. The reason Iraq invaded Kuwait was because of oil disagreements. Iraq said that Kuwait owed them billions of dollars for mispumping oil and illegally overproducing their oil.When the invasion began President Dubya Bush entered into the war to protect Kuwait and urged other countries to enter their forces to contribute to the war. 32 nations entered in this war against Iraq along with the US. The US sent troops into Kuwait on August 7 to protect their oil fields from the bombing and invading Towel Head Iraqians. On Nov 29, 91 US proposed to Iraq that they must withdraw their troops and stop their invasions and boming by Jan 15. Then on Jan 18, 1991 there was no such agreement or removal of troops happen from Kuwait thus putting us into another war , Desert Storm. After we pretty much dominated Iraq within a couple of months they stopped firing and the war stopped.
9-11 and The War on Terrorism/Invasion of Afgan
On September 11, 2001 a seriers of suicidal attacks planned by al-Qaeda on the US kill nearly 3k americans. On that September 11th morning 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four jet ailiners and planned on crashed two of the four into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in United States's New York City. The crash killed everyone on board of the planes and hundreds of others workin the Twin builds and some next to the buildings. Both of the Towers collapsed that day destroying and making damage to most of the buildings in the vicinity of the Towers. The other hijacked planes crashed into hte Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia outside of Wahington, DC. The fouth and final hijacked plane also known as Flight 93 was hijacked and planned to crash into the capital. Fortunately the passengers and the crew members on the plane fought against the hijackers and crashed the plane into a field in Shanksville Pennsyllvania. For the first time the SCATANA in history which grounded all planes and air travel.
The US launched Operation Enduring Freedom in which US would move the safe haven to Al-Qaeda and its use of the Afghan territory as a base of operations for terrorists activities, Thus we invaded Afganistan. The US wanted to go after Taliban officials in Afghanistan. On October 7, 2001, the invasion of Afghanistan started with United States and British forces droppin airstrike campaigns.
INVASION OF IRAQ 03
The invasion of Iraq began on March 20, 2003. It was led mainly by the United States, along with Great Britain,Australia, and Poland. Four countries helped with the initial invasion phase which started on March 20 and ended on May 1 of 2003. The alleged reasons for the invasion of Iraq was to take our weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, to end all of Suddam's support for terrorism, and to free the Iraqi people.
In 2003 63% of the people in the United States wanted to find an alternative way, other than war , of handling the situation with Iraq. Even some of the United State’s closest allies did not agree with what we did. These countries included; France, Germany, and Canada. After the initial invasion 36 countries became involved in the war.
I think that the Watergate Scandel was dumb and Im not sure why President Nixon would do something like that. The Gulf War was a good thing I think. I think if we wouldnt of help Kuwait this would have gotten very bad and oil prices would of probably sky rocketet. The last thing I want to talk about it the War with Iraq and all of those Eastern small countries. I think that President Bush got us into some bad things and now were are stuck over there doing things that arent neccesary. I think that the war has gone on to long and needs to come to an end.
