Watergate scandal- The watergate scandal was a political scandal in the 1970s. It resulted from the break-in into the Democratic National Committie headquarters at the watergate office complex in Washington D.C. The scandal led to the resignation of U.S. president Richard Nixion on August 9, 1972. It also led to the conviction of several Nixion adminastraion officials. The scandal began when five men broke into the Democratic National Committie headquarters at the watergate complex on June 17, 1972. The investigation connected the men to the re-election of president Nixion by a slush fund. As evidence was mounting on president Nixion, it was revealed that he had tapeing systems in all rooms and had recorded many conversations. These recordings showed Nixion tried to cover up the break in. After many court battles the U.S. supreme court ordered Nixon to hand over the tapes and he finally did. After facing near impeachment Nixon resigned.

I never knew about this untill I researched it. I think it was kind of a dumb idea to do because your always going to get caught.

Persian Gulf War (1990-1991)

The Persian Gulf War was from August 2, 1990 to Feburary 28,1991. It is known as the mother of all battles by Suddam Hussien. The Gulf War was known as Desert Storm for military response. The United Kingdom initiated a coalition force of 34 nations against Iraq. They went against Iraq after they invaded Kuait on August 2, 1990. President George H.W. Bush sent american forces to Saudi Arabia, and asked other countries to back them up. There were many military forces like the U.S., Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United Kingdom. Around $40 billion of the $60 billion was from Saudi Arabia. To get Iraq out of Kuait we bombed them on January 17,1991 followed by an assult on the ground. This was a victory for coalition forces. Because they advanced to Iraqi territory fighting was confined to Iraq, Kuait, and the border of Saudi Arabia, but Iraqis did fire missils into Saudi Arabia.

I never knew about this war and I didnt know that we have been at war with Iraq this long !!!!

9-11 and the War on Terror- Invasion of Afganistan

The September 11th attacks happened on September 11th 2001. It was a series of attacks on the Twin Towers in New York City. Nineteen Al-Qaeda terrorists hyjacked two airliners and crashed them into the two towers. There was also a third plane that went into the side of the Pentagon and a fourth into a field that was headed for Washington D.C. after passengers and crew members tried to re-take control of the plane. No passengers survived on the planes and many died from the towers and Pentagon. Almost 3,000 people died that day, and there is a secondary cause of death, lung diease, from the dust from the twin towers falling. We responded with the war on Terrorism. Which was to invade Afganistan to get rid of the Taliban, who honored Al- Queada. The U.S. also started the USA Patriot Act. This act gave law enforcment the ability to search telephone, e-mail, medical, financial, and other records. This was signed by President George Bush on October 26, 2001. Many other countries tightened their airports too.

I remember this day. I was in 2nd grade and went into the computer lab and as we walked in my teacher shut off the t.v. so i really didnt know what was going on. Also in 8th grade I went to Washington D.C. and we went by the Pentagon. They were almost done fixing the side that had been hit. It really surprised me that six years later they werent done patching it up.

Invasion Of Iraq - 2003

The invasion of Iraq was from March 20, 2003 - May 1, 2003. It was led by the U.S. along with the United Kingdom, Austraila, and Poland. Thirty-six other small countries helped too. This invasion started the current war with Iraq. Before the invasion 100,000 troops were put in Kuait on Febuary 18. Reasons for invading are to disarm Iraq of mass distruction, end Suddam Hussain`s support of terrorism, and to free the Iraqi people.

I dont really know alot about this war and sometimes I dont understand why were in it.
