Watergate gets its name because five men broke into the Democratic National Committee Headquarters which was at the Watergate hotel and office buildings. The five men bugged the room and looked for information. This scandal that happened under Nixon ultimately cost him the re-election. The men were tried and found guilty. When I hear Watergate I think about the movie "Forrest Gump" right away because there's a scene where they have a reference to Watergate.
2. Persian Gulf War(1990-91)
Iraq invaded Kuwait and 34 other countries joined together to get out Iraq from the country. The UN put sanctions on Iraq, which means that there wasn't going to be trading or anything with them it basically puts the country's economy on hold with the rest of the world. Iraq had between 20,000- 35,000 casualties where as the other 34 countries, called the Coalition forces, only had a little under 400. Iraq and Kuwait both suffered severely from the fighting and it could have all been avoided. It was Iraq against 34 other countries and some very strong forces like the US, Saudi Arabia, UK, and Egypt there was no way that they were going to win.
3. 9-11 and the War on Terror- invasion of Afghanistan
Everybody should know 9- 11. It was a terrible time in American history and it's hard to even say it's history because of what is happening today it just still makes it feel so real although it was in 2001. After the attacks the country really came together and President Bush started the War on Terror with the point of stopping terrorism and not having another attack like this or any happen to the US again. I think that people have lost what we're fighting for and it's really upsetting because we're not just in a war to be in a war but we're in a war to better the world by making it safer.
4. Invasion of Iraq-2003
Many thought that war wasn't the the best way to settle the problems with Iraq, but I don't think that having a tea party and asking Saddam Hussein to stop running the country like he was and to give up any weapons of mass destruction would've worked out to well either. Granted this made people not like Bush as much because they though that the fighting in Afghanistan should be settled first.
