John F. Kennedy

John F. Kennedy was the 35th president of the United States of America. He was born in 1917 and died in 1963 at the age of 46. He was born to a prominent family and attended many private schools. He attended Harvard for awhile, and volunteered in the U.S. Army, but was rejected because of his many back troubles. He then was accepted into the U.S. Navy.John married Jacqueline Bouvier in 1953, and was much younger than presidents and first ladies before them. They were very popular and were featured in many magazines. Jacqueline set many fashion trends, and brought art and furniture into the White House. They also built a tree house in the lawn and a swimming pool. They were popular like movie stars and pop singers.

<John and Jacqueline had five children, with only two surving, Caroline and John Jr. Jacqueline had a miscarriage in 1955 and a stillbirth in 1956. Caroline was born in 1957 and John Jr. in 1960. John Jr. was born a few weeks after his father was elected president. They had another son, Patrick, in 1963, but he died shortly after birth. The Kennedy's are known for being strong during tough times. John Jr. died in a plane crash in 1999, which killed his wife and sister-in-law as well. Caroline is the only living immediate family member.

When John was 34, and a congressman. he left for a seven week trip to Asia with his younger brother and sister. Because of the age difference between him and his brother, they were never too close. They became very close during this trip and best friends. Robert became his campaigning partner which helped him become president.John became president in 1961, and during his inagaural address, he stressed the importance of citizens being active. He spoke these words, "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." I think these are great words, and many people need to think about them these days. John was a great president and it's a shame that he died at such an early age. He will be remembered as a great president.
