On June 10, 1991 this 11 year old girl was waiting at the bus stop in Antioch California and was forced into a van. Her case was on Americas Most Wanted t.v. show several times. She was kept in a very private area behind Phillip Garrido's house. Jaycee was pregnant and the age of 14. She had two daughters. She was in good health but she or her children hadn’t been to a doctor or school since she was taken. Phillip was already on lifetime parole for a rape he was convicted of earlier. Jaycee and Phillip created a bond during the time of captivity. She never really tried to escape.
Police believe that the whole time Jaycee and her daughters were in the backyard of Phillips house. There was a soundproof shed that could only be opened by the outside and some tents with a “camping-style” toilet and shower. They got electricity out there by using extension cords. The area had trees all around it and a fence. Officers inspected the house a few times but they were too stupid to really check the place out. In 2006 some neighbors of Phillip called the police and said there were tents with kids living in them and that Phillip was “psychotic”. A police officer went to the house and talked with Phillip on his doorstep for a while and told him that it would be breaking the law if there were people living outside.
On August 24, 2009 Phillip went to a University of California where police gave him permission for part of his “God’s Desire” program. He talked to a UC events manager Lisa Campbell. She thought his behavior was a little strange. She asked him to make an appointment for the next day. She then told campus police. Ally Jacobs, a campus police woman, did a background check on him. She found out he was on parole for rape. Phillip went to his appointment the next day and brought two girls and said they were his daughters. Ally notice a weird behavior from the girls towards Phillip. She also noticed their clothes seemed a little strange. Ally then talked to Phillip’s parole officer and told him about the girls. His parole officer talked to Phillip and arranged a meeting. That day Phillip arrived with his wife, the two girls and a woman who they called “Allissa”. They separated them from Phillip and found out that it was Jaycee Dugard and the two girls were her children. Phillip and his wife were then arrested. The FBI called Jaycee’s mother and at first she thought it was a prank call. Jaycee got custody of her children and was reunited with her mother.
