Questions

1. FDIC, SEC,

  • U.S Securities and Exchange Commission was established in 1934 to regulate the stock market

  • Prevented corporate abuse of stock markets

  • Stock market crash of 1929 started depression

  • Low stock prices

  • New deal monitored stock trade more closely than ever to catch abuse and avoid another crash

  • (FDIC) Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation- granted government insurance for bank deposits in member banks of the Federal Reserve System

  • (SEC) Securities and Exchange Commission- formed to protect the investing public from fraud in the stock-market, it holds primary responsibilities for enforcing of federal security laws and regulations, also regulated stock and option exchanges. Before the SEC there were the Blue Sky Laws, the main meaning of the laws were similar to the SEC but were mostly ineffective.

  • Tried to control “financial hierarchy” in an attempt to stop the repeating of the stock market crash of 1929 and the massive bank failures that followed.
