Monday-Went over the two new forum post leaders of this week and there stories. First video is about the background of hoover and the 1928 election. Hoover was born in west branch Iowa actually which is bye ceder rapids. He was the one with the idea of the hoover dam, which created jobs and loads of income for those million of family s that had people working on the dam. This man was very smart he actually got a degree at Stanford university. He was blamed for lots of things that weren't his fault such as the great depression. He obviously runs for president in the 1928 election he ran against AL smith who was a Catholic. He absolutely blew out AL in the election and became are 31st president. He oddly supported the prohibition and AL smith did not. He was very nice with his spending and tried to do as much as he could when the government had money to do it.
Tuesday- Were watching more videos today and taking notes.First were starting off with reviewing over hoover. He was drastically trying to reduce the unemployment rate, he is also know for increasing taxes especially on the rich. Which just sent the unemployment rate in a downward spiral. Also thought raising the tariff even more then they were in the 20s. The goal was to try to make Americans but Americans goods. Now were talking about Roosevelt, came from a very wealthy family. First political spot was state senator from new York, After WWI he ran for vice precedent and last to haulage. After that he is diagnosed with polio which bound him to a wheel chairs. Governor of new York 3 years before he ran for president against hoover and completely killed him. Basically because people blamed hoover for the depression.
Wednesday- First thing were doing is summarizing fdr and all he did for this country. First video were viewing is about the impact of the great depression and its affects on Americans. People lost there life savings and if they didn't lose there money they lost there job, 1/4 people were unemployed. Some people would work 4 hour days because that's all they could get witch would cut most incomes in half. Hoover villas were pretty much a place for very poor people that have no were else to go. This was the worst poverty america has experienced. Breadlines were also a very big part for the poor to stay alive. Usually the men were the ones to stand in the line. Soup kitchens were another way to survive. Hobos were also a huge thing of this time.
Thursday-We are summarizing over the crash and the depression. The next video is over the unemployed and young people. City men turned to mining and farming just to stay alive. Wpa was the largest work new deal program it put food in the mouths of many. Lot's of kids dropped out of school so they could provide for there family. CCC was also another huge group during this time. You pretty much worked for the government and lived in camps. They were paid 30$ a month as long as 25$ com back to there family. This was only for the poor people. This was a very strict military procedure. They pretty did whatever the government told that base to do that day. This actually put are young men to work. Nya unlike the ccc this was for women and men and was trying to keep these young people in school. Eleanor Roosevelt was the main supporter of this.
Friday- First we went over next weeks forum post leaders. Now ere going over next weeks test. AAA established in 1933, Restricted farmer and how much they could plant. Also as the scs with was a soil conservation unit that paid farmers not to plant crops that year. They destroyed thousands of acres of crops and slit 6 million pigs throats.
