This weeks blog topic was about an extremely long article but, we only had to read the first 16 of 65 pages. It was about Senetor James Inhofe from Oklahoma and his opinions on Global Warming. He says the media talks a lot about Global Warming. Since 1895 the media has been going from global warming issues to global cooling issues and its been switching back and forth as the years go by. The media has talked about these issues in many different time periods. From 1895 to the 1930's they worried about the possibilities of having an ice age. From the late 1920's to the 1960's they were scared of global warming. From the 1950's to the 1970's they were once again thinking another ice age was coming. Then it leaves you with our fear towards global warming today. When you think about it, this is the fourth time in the last 100 years we thought global warming was going to occur. The article then began to talk about the controversy with global warming being caused by man rather then the enviroment. According to scientific research there was a Midevieal time period from 900 AD to 1300 AD when global warming actually occured. Also, the occurance of a small ice age from 1500 to 1850. These time periods were long before any human industrial activity could have effected the Earth's weather climate. It turns out that 50% of the melting in Antarctica is due to the sun, and that it is getting colder there. So are we really the main cause for global warming? The director of the International Arctic Research Center in Fairbanks, Alaska talked to congress. He said that after hearing what all of the computers now days say about the future of our planet. He says “He now believes that the greatest climate threat we face may be coming from computer models”.An article in the Reuters News came out on September 15, 2006, it said that polar bears are in danger in becoming no longer active because of global warming. The article said that they were talking to a visitor of the Arctic and they said that they saw two polar bears that "looked" like they were having extreme physical pain. In the article it said that one of the polar bears he saw looked like it was dead and the other polar bear he saw just looked very tired. Inhofe says “the article did not say that the bears were actually dead or tired, it just said that they looked that way”. Reporters always say that polar bears are not doing well, but they are actually doing quite well. “Of the thirteen populations of polar bears in Canada, 11 are stable or increasing in number.”This article made me realize not everything in the newspapers and magazines are true. I believe global warming is happening. Im just not sure on the causes of it. I do not think we are the main cause, but our polluting of the enviroment is contributing to it. I never realized how much the media is trying to just scare us and make us believe the lies. I think that is wrong. Why cant the media tell us the truth we deserve to know.
