The next day, he told the boxer that he used to manage, Micha, as they were working about the news that he heard on the radio just to stop him from getting himself shot. The boxer could not keep his mouth shut so by the next day everyone knew about this. Jakob was mad because now the officers might find out that a Jew has a radio and he will now be killed if they knew.
People kept asking Jakob about anymore reports on the news. Seeing as he didn't really have a radio, he made up stories about it. They believed him and it kept the people's hopes up. It lessened the number of suicides in the ghetto.
But one of the informers told on Jakob and the Nazi's were tearing thru the village. Jakob finally got the guts to confess and wouldn't tell the people in the village that it was a lie. Instead, he smiled and didnt say anything and was shot. The rest of the village was put on a train but was fortunately stopped by Russian soldiers.
I thought it was a very good movie. It outlined a lot of the struggles that a Jew had, such as; not having enough food, worrying about future, getting married or not, hiding weapons, etc. Robin Williams did a great job as Jakob. But the ending to me really stunk.
The picture below is of Micha, Lina, and his fiance watching Jakob on stage after being beaten to confess. My favorite scene.
