Is Halloween Recession-Proof?

Why is Halloween so awesome? I think it's because people like to take on a separate identity, to be someone else, to forget about their problems. Children's costumes used to be the big seller, but that has started to change. More costumes for adults are being sold, and it's about even for children and adult sales. Plus, with all the news this year, costumes like Michael Jackson, Bernie Madoff, etc. are selling like crazy. As you all know (I hope), our economy is, well, blah. Crazily enough though, sales for this holiday are expected to reach $6 billion. That, my friends, would be record-breaking. I think that would be awesome, mostly because people will be tossing money back into the economy, and therefore improving it.Our economy last year was absolutely terrible. Believe it or not, sales last year were off the charts. Costumes aren't the only items being sold though. Goods such as food utensils, party favors, decorations, and all that jazz sell very well. Halloween items haven't always sold so good. Over the last four years, sales have improved by a fantastic 48.5%!I think sales are going to be very good today, as the holiday falls on a Saturday, and there will be a lot more adults partying. I must agree with one person who was interviewed about Halloween. Her thought was that little kids are all about dressing up to get candy, but as they grow older, they're just not into dressing up. I know I'm not feeling it this year. The lady thinks that adults like buying costumes because it makes them feel young again.Let's all hope for a fantastic Halloween, and to those of you doing stuff, be safe! Have fun!
