Iraq invasion on Kuwait in 1990

The country of Iraq used to make most of its earnings from petroleum. Petroleum’s price depends on its production levels internationally. When the year 1990 came around, Iraq’s oil had a huge price decrease. It went from a barrel being $28 to one for $11. The huge price decrease was caused by the country of Kuwait. That year Kuwait started making a huge production of oil for their country. This, of course, made Iraq’s economy crash and their whole country was left with anger and a grudge.

To make matters even worse Kuwait along with the Emirates continued to increase their oil production though out the first months of the year. Doing this made Iraq’s economy to continue to weaken. Kuwait knew the Iraqis were angry with them but that didn’t stop anything. The country refused to give Iraq back the territory that they took during the war.

Kuwait’s oil production requirements were not being met; their production quotas weren’t being met. Since they weren’t producing enough oil, they decided to start pumping oil for their own country from the Rumaila which was one of Iraq’s oil reserves. Kuwait made the decision to stop financially helping Iraq. I think this was a mistake on their part. It didn’t help with their conflicts. Iraq was being left thirsty for war.

Kuwait's oil fire cause by Iraqians

Iraq was getting sick of what Kuwait was doing and they’ve had enough. They wanted revenge. On the day of August 2 in the year 1990 Kuwait was invaded by Iraq. It wasn’t long until Iraq gained complete control over the country. The golf war has begun. The United States and the United Nations both told Iraq to back off and withdrawal. At this time, battle plan were already made for Iraq.

Sometime back in February of that year at the Amman summit, Saddam Hussein said that they disagreed completely with what the Americans were saying and didn’t want to go with their plans. Following his speech there was many rumors about missiles Saddam was carrying and nuclear weapons and chemicals he had. No one might ever no if this rumor is true or not.
