Iran's role in Iraq

Iran and Iraq have been neighboring countries for many centuries. They have many things in common. Both of these countries are oil rich and primarily Muslim. Iran uses these similarities to bond themselves and Iraq. Iraq is usually considered Iran’s first line of defense (PDF) against any foreign invasions. This is the main reason that both the countries hate the United States.

Iraq may be known as Iran’s first line of defense but Iran also helps Iraq with their military. Iran helps by offering weapons and support. They also help train Iraqi troops to kill the U.S soldiers. The Pentagon is starting to become concerned about Iran’s deepening involvement in Iraq.

The United States is concerned about the evidence that they found on the tactical support that Iran is supplying to the Iraqi Shiite insurgency. They have also found evidence on Tehran supplying many things such as roadside bombs to Iraq. This is concerning the U.S because they are using the bombs to kill U.S troops. The United States have tried to stop the involvement between the two countries by sending messages to Tehran not to meddle in Iraqi affairs.

I agree with the United States is doing. I believe that they should keep a close eye on the relationship between Iraq and Iran so that they don’t become too close. I don’t think that the U.S should get involved and begin to meddle but they should watch them very closely.
