Iran's Nuclear Program

The first nuclear program for Iran was in the 1950’s, the United States and some Western European governments had support for it. It was then suspended after the 1979 Iranian Revolution. Then, it was picked up again in 2006, without as much support.

Iran’s goal is to create a nuclear system that supplies electricity, and doesn’t use oil, so that they can instead sell their oil and use it for medical reactors. Iran is currently looking for more medium sized power plants and uranium mines for the future, and is looking into the use of nineteen more power plants. One of it’s power plants is to be set up in Darkhovin, Iran. It's previous plant, Bushehr I, was expected to be up in 2009, but it is incomplete, and there are no further plans to complete it.

Earlier this year Obama and the European Union worked on asking China and Russia to help convince Iran to once again suspend it’s nuclear program. Also, the United States has asked Israel to hold off it’s military against Tehran while we work to work things out with Iran, although Israel sees it’s self as being the most in danger of Iran’s nuclear power.

Many people believe that Iran is working on it’s nuclear program mainly to help it work out negotiations with other countries.

I hope that the United States and other countries are able to step-up their game to help stop Iran.
