Iran already has two nuclear facilities. The US and Allies have said that Iran has a secret nuclear facility. In 2002, it was suspected that Iran was building a uranium enrichment facility in Natanz. The US said that the facility was for nuclear weapons, but really? What country is going to admit it? Iran insisted that the plant was only going to be used for nuclear energy, and there were many inspections. In December 2007, intel estimations said that Iran had stopped a different program for building a nuclear device, but the US still said that they were pumping out enriched, weapons-grade uranium, which I think was a good call.Intelligence officials said that they've finally found evidence of efforts to enrich uranium on a base outside of Qom, south a bit from Tehran. US, French, and British itel are increasingly sure that the purpose of the underground facility is uranium enrichment, even though they won't tell how they are getting their information, which I find reasonable. One of the reasons they believe the facility is for nuclear weapons is that Iran was trying very hard to conceal it. Suspicious, anyone?Officials concluded that the facility will become operational in 2010. For some reason, US, France, and Britain hadn't bothered to tell Russia or China. Obama wanted to negotiate with Iran, but officials weren't so sure how it would go down, with the Bush administration starting war and all that jazz. Iran suddenly accepted to negotiate in early September, and officials got suspicious. Iran had sent a letter to the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) that asserted that it was following the rule about notifying them six months before a nuclear facility becomes operational. With all this news, detailed intel reports were delivered to the Russian and Chinese gov'ts.
