For the last 100 years the media has been warning us about global warming and global cooling. All this started in 1895. First the media warned us about an up coming ice age. This lasted from 1895 until the 1930’s. Then from the late 1920’s to the 1960’s the media scared us with warnings about global warming. After that they warned us again about an ice age during the 1950’s through the 1970’s.
There is a graph called “Hockey Stick” that is reported to show that in the Northern Hemisphere the temperatures over the last 900 years were stable then they spiked in the 20th century. They believe that human activity caused this spike. The National Academy of Science reports showed evidence that there was a Medieval Warm Period during 900AD to 1300AD then during 1500 to 1850 there was a Little Ice Age. Both these events occurred before any human activity could cause the Earth’s climate to change. Some scientists even believe that the Earth was warmer than it is now when the Vikings grew crops in Greenland.
There are 60 scientists that clearly explained the current state of scientific knowledge on global warming. In the last few years there has been researched collected that shows that the Antarctic is actually getting colder and the ice is growing. Geophysical Research Letters, a new study, discovered that the sun was responsible for 50% of the 20th century warming. Many scientists are predicting a long term global cooling may occur due to a projected decrease in the sun’s output.
Alarmists have gotten this “consensus” on global warming stuck into our heads through the use of computer models that project future calamity. There is not enough science to place so much faith in the computer models scenarios. These computers are designed to extrapolate the current and projected build up of greenhouse gases. The climate models that show a disappearing Arctic was nothing more than “science fiction” testified the director of the International Arctic Research Center in Fairbanks Alaska to Congress. Some people believe that the alarmist computer models maybe the greatest climate threat that we will face and that its time to separate climate change fact from hysteria.
Many people believe that the Kyoto Protocol is a lot of economic pain for no climate gain. The Kyoto Protocol has made many predictions that have not come true. If man-made global warming is true then the global alarmists should be worried because they haven’t come up with a meaningful solution to this climate crisis. The media and global warming alarmists are thanking California for trying to limit their CO2. This act will not really have any impact on the climate but it will on the economy. When you change to mare energy-efficient light bulbs it’s a good thing but its absurd to think that it can change the climate disaster. Symbolism doesn’t solve a climate crisis.
The Media is committed advocates for the global warming issues. Newsweek magazine said “There are ominous signs that the Earth’s weather patterns have begun to change dramatically and that these changes may portend a drastic decline in food production-with serious political implications for just about every nation on Earth.” New York Times headline read “Climate Changes Endanger World’s Food Output.” And a quote from Time magazine says “As they receive the bizarre and unpredictable weather pattern of the past several years, a growing number of scientists are beginning to suspect that many seeming contradictory meteorological fluctuations are actually part of a global climatic upheaval.” All these quotes and headlines are from the year 1974. In these quotes they are referring to a coming ice age not global warming. The media and scientists have been switching between global warming and cooling for about 100 years. On August 9, 1923 The Chicago Tribune said, “Scientist says Arctic Ice will wipe out Canada.” In the 190’s the media switched from on coming ice age to global warming.
An article was run past Seth Borenstein that said “Scientists give two thumbs up to Gores movie.” On June 27. 80% of the scientists contacted by the AP hadn’t seen the movie. Mr. Gore promotes were wrong or misleading. For example he claimed that the polar bears are drowning in huge numbers due to the melting ice when really they are thriving. He also fears that Greenland’s ice is in danger of disappearing and that Antarctic was warming and losing ice but didn’t mention that its only a small region and the vast bulk is cooling and gaining ice.
I believe that there is not enough proof that global warming is man-made. I believe that the Earth goes through hot and cold cycles. The media blows this whole thing out of proportion in my option. So far this appears to be a political game.
