Health Care

Personally, this subject really confuses me, but with the help of my parents and the internet I think I kind of understand it now.1. So right now there are four options in the health care system pretty much. First, there is health insurance. You can pick which plan you want for the amount of money you want to pay. For exaple you can say I'm a pretty healthy person so I'll pay $500 a month and then if you have to go to the hospital you'll pay the first $500 and your health insurance will pay the rest. Or you can say I need better coverage and pay $1000 a month and then your health insurance will cover you. Also, you can get coverage from your employer. Second, you can have nothing. You would say I'm am so healthy I don't need health insurance. So if you get hit by a truck or have to go to the hospital for some reason you would have to pay everything. Third, there is medicare. This is for all of the elderly people. They still pay a little, but this is to help for all of their health problems. A little amount of money is coming out of our parents paychecks to help pay for the elderly people now. It also helps for when they become the elderly people. Lastly is medicaid. This is for all of the mentally and physically disabled people, and for those who have no jobs and can't pay for it themselves. They apply for the help and the government helps them. This money also comes out of our parents paychecks. So that's pretty much how the health care system works.

2. The main idea of Obama's plan is that the government would turn into a giant insurace company. They would pay for everyones health insurence, but we would have to pay it back in taxes. They keep changing it from day to day so no one can be exactly sure how it is going to work. So far he says that it is going to cost $50 and $65 billion a year when it is in full use. Also he says that it will save a typical family up to $2500 a year.3. So why does Obama want the reform? Well he said that these are the things that he would like the health care reform to do.•Reduce long-term growth of health care costs for businesses and government•Protect families from bankruptcy or debt because of health care costs•Guarantee choice of doctors and health plans•Invest in prevention and wellness•Improve patient safety and quality of care•Assure affordable, quality health coverage for all Americans•Maintain coverage when you change or lose your job•End barriers to coverage for people with pre-existing medical conditionsHe said that in the end we would be in better shape.

4.The main reason for people being against the health care reform is that they don't want the government being in charge of everything. They don't want their taxes going up, and seeing the private insurance companys go out of business. They don't want the government being able to say what everyone gets and having that kind of control. Now that I kind of understand the health care thing i'm not sure what I think I could go either way on this subject, but I'm glad I know what's going on now.
