Great Society- Environment

The Great Society was just like President Roosevelts New Deal. Under the Great Society one of the programs created was the for the environment. The NEPA wanted to helped the wildlife and preserve national resources but yet not harm the human life. In the process of Great Societ-Environment, the government passed many laws such as The Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and The Wildlife Act. Also another big thing passed was the NAtional Environmental Policy Act of 1969.Joseph A. Califano Jr was one of the chairman for the Environmental program was this is one of his quotes.

Great Society's main contribution to the environment was an extension of protections beyond those aimed at the conservation of untouched resources.

- Joseph A. Califano Jr

"[t]he air we breathe, our water, our soil and wildlife, are being blighted by poisons and chemicals which are the by-products of technology and industry. The society that receives the rewards of technology, must, as a cooperating whole, take responsibility for [their] control. To deal with these new problems will require a new conservation. We must not only protect the countryside and save it from destruction, we must restore what has been destroyed and salvage the beauty and charm of our cities. Our conservation must be not just the classic conservation of protection and development, but a creative conservation of restoration and innovation."

-Lyndon B. Johnson

The biggest group set up from the enviromental program was the National Environmental Policy Act or NEPA. The Act set up the Presidents Council on Environmental Quality which simply set up laws and inivations to better the environment.

I think It a good thing that we set up many of these programs to protect our environment and preserve it. Other than that i dont no what to say about the topic.
