Sen. James Inhofe delivered a speech on September 25th, 2006, about global warming. For the past 114 years, people have not only been scared of global warming, but also global cooling. The media plays a huge roll with this, as it gives all the facts, on both sides. I think the media needs to stop advertising the opinion that global warming isn't a big deal, because I think it is.The "hockey stick" graph was created by a climate scientist named Michael Mann and some of his colleagues, and shows how tempteratures remained about the same for around 900 years and then shot upwards drastically in the 20th century. The "hockey stick" graph was pretty much ripped apart in 2006, and no longer shows anything. The National Academy of Sciences has come back to proving the Medieval Warm Period and the Little Ice Age. Both of these periods go against global warming, as it shows the switch between warm and cold, and how we could be undergoing a short period of time where temperatures are going to get a little crazy, but return back to normal. With this new information, I'm starting to think that's true. Even if it is though, we still need to do things to keep it from getting worse. The media has been scaring people with the one degree Farenheit increase, but the truth of the matter is, that little tiny increase coincided with huge advancements with life expectancy, human health, food production, living standards, and all that. No one really seems to see the positive side of it. Even though life has improved with that increase of temperatures, we can't let it get out of hand. Before we know it, our planet will start to get harmed tremendously. Some questions that haven't been aknowledged are why did temperatures start rising at the end of the Little Ice Age? That was way before man-made CO2 emissions were a big deal. And when CO2 emissions started to rise, why did the temperature decline? We all see commercials for switching to energy-efficient lightbulbs and all this environmentally friendly stuff to save the environment, but it really has to effect unless done in big numbers. That's why I think if we're going to save the environment using environmentally friendly technologies, we need to make it manditory.Moving on to Gore's movie, 'An Inconvenient Truth'. An inconvenient truth about the movie is that there were many, many mistakes. I'm not even going to get into them, because there's so many things he did wrong. To make people really believe him, he should've gotten everything straight. I haven't seen it, but I thought it would be a bunch of legitimate facts showing how bad global warming is. Now that I've read about all the mistakes, I don't even want to watch the movie. Associated Press backed the movie, and said that scientists give it to thumbs up. They only quoted five scientists.
