Today we continued on presentations. Luke finished and then Alex, and Bre went. We went over our blog topics for this month. My topic is Langston Hughes.

Why did people criticize the New Deal?
-Huey Long was a Senator of Louisiana. He criticized the New Deal because they weren’t distributing the wealth. He wanted no body to earn more than 1 million and no less then 4,000.

How did the New Deal help:

farmers- The AAA paid farmers to reduce their crop area. They paid farmers to plant less crops because they were making to much crops. The bushel prices were falling with the more crops they planted.

-The FSA started because of the failure of the AAA. People working on the farms were making less money and put them with the poor people in the cities. It would buy out little farms that were not stable. They took a lot of pictures. They wanted to document all the problems that the farmers were having. They thought that if they showed them to the legislature then they would feel bad for them.

banks/business- The Banking Act established the FDIC. It strengthened the Federal Reserve Board. It provided permanent deposit insurance and it maintained the $5000 level.

Describe the culture of the 1930's.
-Movies- the 30’s were known as the golden age. The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, and Snow White were made in the 30’s. Before Hollywood was Hollywood it was Hollywood Land.
