Why did immigrants come to the US?For religious problems, money, and a better life.Where did immigrants come from? All around the world. Cuba, Mexico, etc,What problems/issues did immigrants face on the trip over and once they got here? They had to go through different things to get throughWhy did some people want to put restriction on immigration? What were those restrictions?Because of racism and they didn't want them coming over here. They were selfish. They didn't like them taking jobs. The Chinese Exclusion Act. It banded Chinese immigrants to coming in. The Gentlemen Agreement.Today in class I learned that immigrants came in the late 19th and early 20th century. They came from places like Europe. Latin America, Mexico, Japan, China, Portico, and Cuba. They came here because or religious problem and a whole bunch of different reasons. 1890 and 1920 was when the Europeans came over. They came because of famine, rising population, job shortage, and land shortage.Europeans had to pass through Ellis Island to get here. They had to make sure they didn't have and health defects, they had to be able to work, they had to have at least twenty five dollars, and they could only come if they have never committed a felony. If they didn't pass the test they were sent back to where they came from. Most people went through here. Only two percent of the people were sent back.300,000 Chinese came from 1851 to 1883. They came here from the Gold Rush. They were treated very poorly. They helped build railroads. Their children were taught in separate schools. 700,00 immigrants came from Mexico. 260,00 in 1920 from Jamaica, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and other islands. The Chinese used Angel Island to get into the United States. They were very harsh. They were kept in dirty cells before questioning. You had to be a student, teacher,or merchant. They were asked very difficult questions because most people didn't want them in our country so they tried to ask the hardest questions so they couldn't get in.I don't think that we should of had such harsh of test to get into the United States. I really like the idea of having a test and all but I don't think that it should have been that hard.
