Today in class I learned that settlers moved to the Great Plains fro riches, a new start, and for cheap land to farm. If i was in one of the settler's situation I would probably move to the East. The government dealt with Native Americans by passing a Dawn's Act that gave Native Americans the Great Plains and once they knew that it was good farming land they tried to get the land back. They would get the chiefs drunk and make them sign the land over. The Native Americans kept getting pushed to worse types of land. If I was a Native American I would probably get very angry with the settlers. The dawn's Act was an attempt to make Native Americans like an European because that's how everyone in America was like. They were trying to kill the Native American's culture. The Native American's weren't very happy about this and I wouldn't blame them. If the Native American's refused to "Americanize" we would end up going to war with them. The also purposely shoot buffalo to make the Native American's mad. The Battle of Wounded Knee ended the war.The cowboys would drive cattle over land. They would brand their cows to prove ownership of them. They didn't have railroads at this time. I think that would be a lot of hard work.
