We studied our maps for a little bit and then we continued with the movie.

1. Describe what the “flat world” means before watching the lecture?

I think that it means like we can basically talk to anyone around the world easily and in a way see the entire world.

2. Briefly describe Globalization 1.0.

The first era (1492-1800) that shrunk the world from basically large to medium. I was basically countries going mobile, discovering more and claiming more land.

3. Briefly describe Globalization 2.0.

the second era (1800-2000) when the world went from medium to small and it was basically through companies like multymedia companies



4. Briefly describe Globalization 3.0.

now and its shrinking the world from small to tiny and its flattening the global economic playing field. This key thing about this era is that its built around the induviduals of all races and religions.

5. What was the Berlin Wall a flattener of the world?

It allowed us to think of the world as one, as a flat plane through wich we could see the world.

6. What was the importance of Netscape going public on 8-9-95?

it brought the internet alive for the public as a tool, It commercialized a set of laws, and it triggered the .com boom basically the growth of the internet.

7. What is outsourcing/offshoring and why are many Americans opposed to it?

it sending jobs to a different place than the company is based and having it in a different country. It takes away jobs from the american population.


8. Give two examples of “open-sourcing”.

Fire Fox and Lennox and basically anybody can add to it. Also open office.source


9. What does Friedman mean by “informing”?

You can like collaborate with data all by yourself without going through other people and companies and stuff like that.


10. What are the “steroids” according to Friedman?

Wireless, voice over the internet, and file sharing.


11. According to Friedman, how do people need to change in the future to succeed in a “flat world”?

They need to horizontalize themselves.

A global web enabled informed platform for multiple forms for sharing knowledge and work irrespect ful of time distance and even language.
