Mr. Bruns had something he had to finish so he gave us the first half of class to study the Asia maps. Then we got back in to the movie we’ve been watching about the flat world. I wasn’t here all of yesterday so I caught up on the questions everyone did yesterday and added them below along with the ones from today.
………………………………………………………………………………………………
5. What was the Berlin Wall a flattener of the world?

The wall came down on November 9, 1989. It let us think of the world as a single flat plain. When the wall came down it was a sign that the Cold War ended and the world became one.

6. What was the importance of Netscape going public on 8-9-95?

It gave the internet as a tool that people could use.

7. What is outsourcing/offshoring and why are many Americans opposed to it?

Outsourcing is using people from one place to do a job in a place somewhere far away. Offshoring is when people take a company and build it somewhere else (like China) because it’s cheaper there. It’s taking jobs away from us.

8. Give two examples of “open-sourcing”.

Linnex and Wikipedia

9. What does Friedman mean by “informing”?

being able to collaborate data by yourself

10. What are the “steroids” according to Friedman?

wireless voice over the internet and file sharing
