Today we finished our first presentation over causes of the cold war.

Fidel Castro and the Bay of Pigs
· Born in August 13 1926
· He attended a catholic school before graduation from the university of Havana with a degree in law
· Castro was a member of the ortodoxo party a social democrat party and strongly critized batista
· Castro launched an attack on the moncada army barracks
· Most involved were killed or captured
· He had over thrown the American backed dictator fulegencio batista
· He was captured and giving in a trial which he used to creat his famous speech
· Sentenced for 15 years
· Castro led about 150 men in a n attack on moncada barracks
· Castro promised democracy
· He wouldn’t allow voting when he became dictator
· Then he started to take land form the people

o Invasion was intended to start an upspring against castro

o When they landed they wanted to do a surprise attack but it faced 25,000 cuban troops backed up by soviet tanks and jets

o By april there were 90 exiles had been killed and the rest were prisoners
o Some of the critics were blaming kennedy for not giving it adequate support and others for allowing it to take place at all
o The captured exilers were captured later ransomed by private groups in the us.
