New Map of Europe
During the war there were a lot of big countries and whenever a communist country broke up there was a war. Yugoslavia became 6 countries.Czechoslovakia had the Velvet Revolution in which they split into two countriesand dropped communism peacefully. The Baltic States came out of the USSR afterthey gained independence and became countries in 1990. Russia still wanted abuffer land and they sort of formed an alliance with the surrounding countries.

The Fall of Communism
Gorbachev was the last leader of the UUSR that brought communism down in the Soviet Union. The Iron curtain was a symbol of the separation offree and communist Europe. Gorbachev at first wished to strengthen the USSR. TheSoviets put a lot of money into stockpiling weapons which didn’t help theireconomy. All the money they had put to weapons had taken away from the rest ofthe things that needed to be improved. He allowed people a little more freedomwith Glasnost and Perestroika which gave freedom of speech to the people. TheUSSR broke into 15 countries. The Berlin wall separated Berlin but it alsorepresented the split in East and West Germany and once it came down itsignified communism failing.

Vietnam
The United States went into Vietnam to stop the spread of communism. North Korea wanted the US out and to unite the country. Ho chi minh wentto France to try and get independence and then he goes to USSR and is trainedin communism. In 1954 they push the French out and we take over the battle forfear of communism.
