We talk about what was happening in California with the fires and "firenados'. Then we review over the semester test and go over the topics as a class, and talk about WWI.
Foreign Policy Notes:
- The Great War, 1914-1918, started with the death of the Austia-Hungarian King, Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Why it became the war because of militarism, imperialism, nationalism, alliances. Veterans Day is the day when WWI ended.
- The Treaty of Versailles was what officially ended WWI. It was signed at the Paris Peace Conference. The United States never signed it. Germany lost land and colonies, and their military was dismantled, and they had to pay $33 billion, and they had to accept the War Guilt clause. Then the League of Nations was set up.
- In the 1920's, we went back to normalcy.
- We tried to stay out of everything because we were in the Great Depression
- WWII: Japan invaded China in 1937. Hitler invaded Poland on September 1st, 1939. Japan attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941.
- After WWII, US and Soviet Union became the 2 world superpowers. Europe was split between democratic and communist countries. The Cold War started, and nuclear arms race. Israel was established after WWII, as well as the United Nations, Geneva Convention, and the Declaration of Human Rights.
He splits us up into 3 groups and I talk about the United Nations. I get the first 2 organizations that deal with the United Nations from the Wikipedia page.
Food and Agriculture Organization: An agency that wants to end hunger, internationally, for both developed and non-developed countries. It also wants to help developed and non-developed to improve agriculture, forests, and fishing, so people get better nutrition and food security. It has 194 member states also the United Nations and the Faroe Islands and Tokelau. The idea of the organization came from an US agriculturalist and activist David Lubin.
International Atomic Energy Agency: It's an agency that looks for peace in the use of atomic weapons.
