Talked about semester test. The Great War from 1914-1918 (WW1), officially started with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, king of Austria-Hungary. Causes: militarism, imperialism, nationalism(pride for their country), alliances. The winner wanted to get land from the loser after the war. US got in at the very end, only about a year. Treaty of Versailles-officially ended WW1, at Paris Peace Conference, Germany was the major country who lost, had many debts that had to pay, League of Nations was set up. Return to Normalcy in 1920s, go back to isolationism. The road to WW2: 1919-1941, Japan invaded China, Hitler invaded Poland, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. Great Depression-1930s, good reason to stay out of other people's conflicts, WW2 got us out of it. After WW2, the world was split into communism and democracy, cold war started, nuclear arms race, Israel was established, US and Soviet Union became two superpowers. United Nations was established, Declaration of Human Rights, Geneva Convention were established after the war. Researching United Nations.

7-International Monetary Fund-created in 1945, countries contribute funds to a pool through a quota system, countries with temporary payment imbalances can borrow money and other resources from this. They work to improve the economies of the 188 countries that are in the fund. Want global monetary cooperation, financial stability, international trade, high employment, and reduce poverty.

8-International Telecommunication Union-responsible for information and communication technologies. Encourages shared global use of radio spectrum, cooperation with satellite orbits, improves telecommunication in undeveloped places, and develops and assists in worldwide technical standards.
