Today is already Friday. We just spent the last two days at home due to the terrible ice storm that we just experienced, and more is apparently on its way. Luckily we have a three day weekend with no school on Monday. The roads were still pretty icey this morning and I think that we could have at least had a two hour late start.A bunch of people are still at home because they weren't able to get in, many have no power, and all of the band people are off on their way to Florida to Disney because they are all jerks that way. It makes me kind of sad that I didn't stay in band for the last two years. Back here at home though, in school, we are being bombarded with all sorts of arrays of tests, quizes, and other painful and unusual punishments.Mr. Bruns is also gone today because he is "Sick", yeah right. We have Mrs. Viss. We are spending the class period looking up our topics for our blogs, doing daily blogs, and entering our forum discussions. Yesterday I finished my assignment blog about the Tennessee Valley Authority. I learned quite a bit about a self-sustaining organization that I have never heard of before, and that has had a great impact on the enviroment, economy, and people of the country. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was frst established in the 1930's during the GReat Depression. It was Franklin D. Roosevelt's attempt to really jump start the New Deal and get the American people back on their feet. The first place on the agenda was to restore the pristine beauty and prosperity of the the Tennessee Valley. Farmers were doing poorly for they had used the land for too long and too hard. The forests were very scarce from destruction, and the valley seemed barren and lonely. The TVA set to work to make new and healthy fertilizers, taught the farmers how to get greater yields, and the help return the farmland to its previous fertile state. They also planted thousands and thousands, perhaps millions of trees that have since flourished and returned the Valley to a lush forest. Wildlife and fish habitats were returned renewed, and hydroelectric plants were brought into the area. All of the plants provided large amounts of clean energy as an alternative to coal burning plants. The TVA has prospered since that time and has continued and is continueing to lead America in innovative and healthy living for the enviroment. I am a new fan of the TVA
