Today we watched a review video..

Great Depression..

by 1932 one quarter of the nations population was out of work.

people lived in cars and junkyards.

banks closed and people couldn't get their money out.

in the 1920's there weren't very many regulations.

people were allowed to buy stock on the margin which meant they didn't need very much money to buy stock.

New Deal..

Franklin D. Roosevelt gave the banks a four day holiday.

his first task was to repair the nation's industry.

the national industrial recovery act.

the other big problem was the failure of farms.

storms and droughts caused dust bowls.

people went to california because their farms were ruined.

his solution was the agricultural reproduction act.

for the first time widespread federal relief act was spread. this gave money, food and clothes to the poor people that needed it.

soup agencys employed people.

franklin roosevelt talked through the radio and made people feel more connected to him.

these were called firechats.

images of the new deal projects were in magazines and newspapers. this gave americans hope.

elanor roosevelt spoke on the radio also.

she gave hope to all women.

the new deal's poor relief didn't really help the african americans.
