Today, we went over Central America at the start of class. We then got back to the video.The water temperature has warmed one degree, and rises about 1.3mm or something like that every year. The island that they cover is sinking, and they believe that the coral reef surrounding the island is dying. Healthy coral reefs protect islands from storm surges that could wipe out the island, Coral bleaching happens because of global warming. They release something that they need because of the rising temperature and usually coral bleaching causes the death. Next, they went to Lake Chad. It used to be the sixth largest lake in the world, but it has now sunk ninety percent. There are a lot of people dependant on the lake for food and all, and they just can't get what they want. Many people are malnourished because of the small amount and bad health of the fish they survive on. A majority of scientists believe that global warming is man-made, but there are people who believe that global warming is natural. Computer models are the only thing that we have to predict the future of earth's climate, and those aren't very accurate at all. Twenty percent of the Amazon rainforest has been lost in the past 40 years.
