Today in CWI, we went over the Central America map. I kind of know these but not so much. We continued to watch the video. This chief guy went out to sea to show the coral reefs while diving. They dove 60 feet and barely saw any sea life because all the coral reefs are dying. The video talked about Lake Chad. It used to be one of the largest lakes in the world, but now 90% of the water is gone. This is causing fish to die off. Most of the water has gone off to irrigate crops. Weather patterns have been changing a lot. Africa's population has been growing the most rapidly out of anywhere in the world. The lake has lost a lot of water once already in a bad and Africa is the lowest carbon producing country but they are still one of the most effected countries from climate change because of the location.River Charay is the river that usually gives Lake Chad and its water is also drying up so when that water gets used up Lake Chad will be even drier. It is drying because of irrigation and over use. John Inhofe appeared on the video with his ideas. He doesn't think that humans are the main cause of global warming. Media is making global warming look convincing, but they have been wrong before and Inhofe had some good points. The Amazon Rain Forest is compared to the United States size wise. I learned that it covers nine countries, it holds 1/4 of the worlds species and is under assault. The trees are getting cut down way to fast, this is a big contributor to climate change. It is 2.7 billion miles that is at risk, thats crazy. About 20% of the rain forest has been lost in the past 40 years. The Amazon is home to 1000 different species but it is running of food rapidly. People have found many people hunting in the Amazon and have been arrested. Obama thinks this a step of hope since those hunters won't be out killing animals that day. The death of the forest is the death for some people. An innocent lady who was trying to help the story got shot on a trail in the Amazon by a hunter, how sad!!
