It's FRIDAY(: (: The first thing we did today was go over a little portion of the south american map. Then we started watching the video again. The first part was about lake Chad. It used to be one of the largest lakes in the world, but now 90% of it is gone. This is causing fish to get smaller and die off, and since that's their source of food, the people are getting smaller too. They are also using what little water they have left.. so they're not really helping things i guess. The lake has done this once before during a bad drought, and eventually replenished.Africa is the lowest carbon emitter in the world, but they're one of the places most effected by climate change because of their location. Their population is also getting much larger, and so they're using up more of their resources. River Charay is one of the lakes that supply the water from Lake Chad is also running out of water. When that dries up, the rest of Lake Chad will dry up and that situation will not be good. Then it showed a portion on James Inhofe and his ideas. He thinks that global warming is not completely human's fault. And even though global warming does sound convincing, the media has been wrong before, and Inhofe has a lot of good points. Some scientists don't even think humans are responsible. The amazon is a huge contributor to climate change, but it's not anything natural's fault. There are a lot of people there tearing down trees and producing greenhouse gases by getting rid of them. It is about the size of the continental size of the U.S., but it's being destoryed.. big time. 20% of the jungle has been lost in the past 40 years.):Even though the Amazon is home to 1/4 of all animals in the world, there are over 100,000 endangered species there. Poachers are a serious threat, and I hope that the people who do poach them get locked up for a very long time): A woman who was a nun worked to preserve the forests and when poachers were poaching she would call and report them. She had recieved numerous threats on her life, but none had actually done anything. When she was walking down a trail one day two men approached her, one with a loaded gun. She held up her Bible and read a passage from Matthew about those who strive for justice will be rewarded, I think, and then he shot her. She died at the scene. ):
