Today we continued with blog discussions again.
*Describe the causes and effects the French and Indian war: It was faught between France and the Indians and Great Britain. Mostly it was a dispute between France and Great Britain over land in the new world, colonies, and power. France was winning for awhile but then it turned around and Great Britain ended up winning. The Native Americans decided to keep fighting and captured eight British forts. The Indians were given blankets that had small pox on them, killing most of their people. Afterwards, the Proclamation Law stated that settlers couldn't venture any farther into Indian territory and the French were kicked out of America. The British went broke and started taxing the colonies which later led to the Revoluitonary war.
*Describe the causes and effects of the war of 1812: This war was faught between Britain and the United States. President Madison thought that Great Britain was trying to prevent us from trading like we wanted to. Also, they thought that they were telling Native Americans to attack us. The biggest reason was impressment because we were upset that Great Britain were taking men off our ships. In the end, America won and recieved international respect because it was the second time we had beat Great Britain in a war. The Treaty of Ghent was what really ended the war.
*Describe the causes and effects of the Texas War for Independence: It was faught between the Mexicans and the Texans. When the Mexicans allowed Texans to come over, they had to give up their American citizenship and get rid of their slaves but the Texans ignored it. The Americans thought that little government was better but the Mexicans wanted a strong government which angered both sides. Texas wanted independence and become their own state. Eventually, Texas won and captured the leader, Santa Ana and kept him until they got their indepedence. Later on, America added Texas as a state.
*Describe the causes and effects of the Mexican-American war: There were differences about where Texas's boundary line should be. America said that the border would be the Rio Grande river and Mexico thought it should be the Neuces River. President Polk moved troops to the Rio Grande and Mexico retaliated and made it look like Mexico attacked us first. America won and the Texan border was settled and about 50% of Mexican land went to the United States.
